SPRING RENEWAL--My "ITEMIZED DAILY PLAN" (IDP) to create and renew my business.

Today is March 21, 2011---An awesome day in that I have "turned" a corner in my business life; I have made a decision today that all of my efforts going forward will be guided by my "Itemized Daily Plan" (My IDP).

I took the day off and spent all day studying the way I can do business in the thriftiest waypossible...I looked at it and studied it until I was almost cross-eyed! MY DETAILED DAILY PLAN

I also did an in-depth self-examination to see how commited I really am and I worked on that too. I took my fears, wrote them down and let them subside as I did that, then tore up the paper I wrote them on and burned them just outside my door (Just a little fire:).

I then wrote a new, fresh list of my goals and my ideas as to how to efficiently go forward: I drew up a detailed, everyday plan(My IDP) to use as I would a grocery list....

My Mother taught me that the most important things you can do to stay with in your budget and not over-spend while you are in the grocery store are:

  • "Do not ever go grocery shopping while you are hungry"
  • "Always write out a list of exactly what you need at the grocery store and never, ever buy anything that is NOT on it!"

The later is the "IDP" or Itemized Daily Plan--an effective way to stay on my program or schedule on a permanent basis!

TIGHT CONTROL ON SPENDINGThis works! I don't know if any of you have had the experience of shoping while hungry; if you have you know what I mean! I am sure you also know how rewarding it is to have a list with you at the store and be able to get in and out without overspending!

In todays world of complicated, economy crushing happenings, it is essential to stay within a budget!  All the efforts in the world to NOT OVER-SPEND will not work unless you have the determination to stay on budget. My new plan will be lean and mean--no more driving around just to "see houses"; My gasoline will be reserved to be used ONLY when I am with a customer/client.

I will walk every where else since I live right in the heart of Southampton Village.(A real benefit to my fitness as well!)

So, my plan will look  something like this as I go out into the world of business tomorrow morning:MY TIME WILL BE SPENT CAREFULLY

  1. Arrive at office at 9:00 AM
  2. Attend 10:00 office meeting
  3. Go on caravan
  4. Do searches on the GIS for new  potential properties/listings.
  5. Call any homeowners that I find from my research.
  6. Call former buyers to see that they are happy in their homes.
  7. Call local small business' to see if they would like to sponsor a "give-away" for my summer tenants as a form of advertising.(Beach picnic baskets, beach towels, etc)
  8. Set up appointments for the weekend.
  9. Call rental listings to see if any one who is not rented yet for summer wants to sell their home.
  10. Wrap up the day with a few more calls to former clients just to touch base

My day will end only after I have completed all the daily details. I have a supply of miniature legal pads that I plan on using for my lists--they are ruled and compact enough so I can tuck them in my bag and have them easily available.

Each day I will have a prepared list of all the things that I need to do that day--if I don't get to an item, it goes on the next days list. My commitment to this way of organizing myself will keep me on purpose with my list each day.....I really believe that it takes drastic measures in this economy to overcome the downside.

With this plan,  I am trying to keep myself in business; from what we are hearing we are in for a much longer stagnation in the economy than was originally thought.

Wow Paula - I'm so impressed that you took the bull by the horns, looked directly at your fears and came up with a strategy to overcome the obstacles in your way and increase your business. Very inspirational post and I think when we put our goals down on paper they become more real and we have a much better chance of reaching them! I may have to do the same thing - what am I saying, I should do the same thing - lol! Attitude is everything and good luck in your endeavors!

Pam: Well, I look at it this way: If I don't take the bull by the horns, I just may get gored!  Business is getting very hard to come by--and from the latest reports the economy is going to get worse before it gets better!

Kristine: You have said it!! I am taking the bull by the horns---this is going to be a very challenging time--if we thought it was tough before, just wait!!...and attitude is everything!! :)

Paula....great IDP plan!  You know....I don't pay attention to the media in regards to real estate and other things.  Focus on the IDP plan and think good thoughts and feel good. Happy Spring!

Anna: Thank you for reading--I should not listen to the news anymore--it is always bad news for this business!! I did have a good day though, giving the thought and time to simply put it down on paper was something that I needed to do. Now I have no excuses and I always hvae needed structure to be organized!

Debbie: Thank you so much--I feel like it is the best thing I have done so far to do just that: FOCUS! When I go to the office just to go, Ifind I nave wasted so much time--to think out each daily accomplishment makes it more possible to accomplish it.

Salud Paula --what an impressive and spiritual way to implement those strategies. Applaud the ritual! I thought of similar things in the past and just like your focused ideas. Good luck and thank you for sharing. Best Peter.

I had a look at JP's side and then wandered to yours...glad I did!
