PAULA'S SOUTHAMPTON BLOG: AN Outlet For MY Creative Juices In A Cut-Throat Business...Or: WHY I LOVE ACTIVERAIN!!

AN Outlet For MY Creative Juices In A Cut-Throat Business...Or: WHY I LOVE ACTIVERAIN!!

AN Outlet For MY Creative Juices In A Cut-Throat Business....Or: WHY I LOVE ACTIVERAIN

I LOVE ACTIVERAIN!I love ActiveRain because it is the only outlet that I have found for real creativity in this business...my need to be creative has been stifled because, as you know, when we stick our necks out in this business, there are more than a few ready to chop off our heads!

I have found many, many agents on this wesite who spend hours reading and commenting on the posts written here. Where else can one go to get the real skinny on real estate news from across the nation...or the vital (usable) technology information that is needed for each individual in the real estate business??? Where else can one go to find another professional to connect with, to find common ground for creating more business, for referrals and for general advice about the business?

But, more than that, I have found something else here that I can't find anywhere else, including Facebook, Twitter---or any other site for that matter!

CREATIVITYCREATIVE JUICES ARE FLOWING!!!

Whether we want to admit it or not, creativity is required in order to survive. Creativity is the "juice" that keeps us on track, that helps us to go on in the face of a struggle or challenge, that gives us a more hopeful outlook on life, that makes us feel better....

I learned, over the years, that life is made up of many different facets for our "ways of being"--we have our practical, day-to-day family lives, we have our work-a-day lives and we have the part of life that is usually never recognized: The creative part of our lives. This is one part that gets very little notice by most of the population. Take a look at some creative parts of our lives:

  • Fitness--Our health
  • Care of our surroundings
  • Our mental fitness--reading, singing, writing, painting, etc.
  • Making a living
  • Nurturing our families and relationships

These are the "Creative" aspects of our lives---where we create--or we don't. When we are in the "Creative" mode, we generate more than just the simple interactions that it takes to get by. We Create a better relationship, a better body, a better mind. These things don't just happen; we have to CREATE them.

CREATIVITY IS NECESSARY FOR SURVIVALTHIS IS WHERE I HAVE FOUND ACTIVERAIN FITS--It fits like a glove on the creative "hand" of my real estate life....realtionships, ideas, challenges, informed minds all develop here and grow here. Creativity has found it's place here on ActiveRain...and I love it!

Here on ActiveRain, we can be as creative and self-expressive as we want to be (within reason :) and there are more than a few who are right there to acknowledge us!!

 WHAT A GREAT THING--ACTIVERAIN!!!

Good Morning Paula, Yes, I would certainly agree with you that AR is a great place to express ourselves. It is also great for information, knowledge, making new contacts and friends, and promoting our business too.

Jerry: It is all of that isn't it? What would we do without it?? I have often thought that if I had not found AR, I would have turned into a tightly wound angry person....and now I am NOT! :)

Will: Thank you so much---I wasn't looking for a compment...but I will take it:) The pics are from "Dreamstime" and they have great photos as well..they charge you  points for them I usually spend $100.00 and thend then deduct the points as I buy the pics--its a great place to search...

Great post Paula. It's such a great place to learn from each other and at the same time challenge each other.

Norma: You know that---and the fact that it is still an unknonwn "quantity to others in the business astounds me!!!

John: Right you are! Here we can be as creative as we want to be with our fellow members---it does tend to engender more creativity too!!!

Paula, I believe we all have our reasons for being on ActiveRain.  I myself, have made several friends who I will never probably meet in person but they have taught me so much about a business and industry that I thought I already knew…

Paula ~ Very nicely stated. i enjoy tapping into my creative side and flexing a little used muscle. Real estate is sometimes a cut throat business but here I am learning ways to handle adversity yet I am also enjoying myself. Hip hip hooray for AR!

Diane: You are more than welcome! I needed to let everyone here know how much I appreciate all of them!

Paul: Me too: It is astoundeding to me to read so many of the posts here on AR and find out taht after all the years I have been in the business, I am still learnig! I love that!

Kristal: Nice cheer!! It is a great place and I am forever indebted to the people who created it too! This business is so cut-throat taht it is har to get that across to our family and friends outside of the fielkd...I find myself saying to friends and family members: It IS a cut-throat business! I have been telling you that...so after that I go sit down at my laptop and go on AR for stress relief!!! :)

Paula, You are very creative!  I appreciate that you have correctly identified an underlying value of Active Rain, that is not often recognized.  Our ability to be creative, and to be evaluated by others is a benefit that should not be undervalued.  What other site, allows you to ask for an opinion and get so many responses?  It could be a question about anything, and the membership steps forward and responds.  Why?  Because they know that it matters to you.  They freely give their opinion and we all gain.  How great is that? Best wishes always.

Richard: It's great to see we are on the exact same wave-length. I sometimes think: "Did I just read that?" ...."What a profound observation" or "This person has it really nailed down" and then I feel like there is hope--and then a thought that there is a chance that what we all want...what we all need,  is to have full expression of our ideas and thoughts and we can do that here on ActiveRain....and the best part??? Someone else will read it and agree, disagree or just plain commiserate on the topic. It is too terrific for words. Thank you Richard for seeing that too!

Hi Paula, I totally agree with you about AR being a space where we can be creative, In addition to that I've found it too be very energizing and a great place to up great information.

Adrian: This is the place, if you ask me--I have tried all of them and nothing like this one! If Facebook made an attempt to allow for more in depth expression of yourself or your ideas then it may have a real importance to those who love AR. But as it stands, it is trite and insignificant to me.

It is a creative outlet....a break from the buzz....a library if you choose....a chuckle when you need one...soo many options ...

Paula. I agree .This is a great place and we learn so much here on Active Rain.

Paula * I used to write and PRING a 8-page quarterly newsletter for DIY landlords and mail it to 500+ would-be clients * I wrote the entire content....now, I just blog!  I occastionally turn a blog into a 3-panel mailing for DIY landlords who live out of the area

Posted by Wallace S. Gibson, CPM, LandlordWhisperer (Gibson Management Group, Ltd.) over 7 years ago

Sally and David: Isn't that so true?? "A Library" ...I like that, because where else could one go for so much detailed information about real estate and everything to do with it???..the only difference woudl be that here it is at our fingertips--if you go to the library, you have to go through VOLUMES to get the quality you find here!! "The ActiveRain Library" is a great place to go to do your research!!!

Posted by Paula Hathaway, REALTOR, LBA, ...The Most Informed Agent In The Hamptons! (Douglas Elliman Real Estate) over 7 years ago

Gita: It is a wonder...this place. I just realized as I replied to the last comment from Sally/David that we are actually in a real estate library--they mention the fact that AR is a place to go just like a library..so true!!

Wallace: Brilliant! That is such a great idea--Have you blogged about that? I would love to see you write a post that shows how you create that mailing and if it is simple enought we could all benefit from it....if you so choose to share that great information:)

Paula,

I love AR for the very same reason.  We can have lots more fun marketing, something I and my sellers appreciate.  Appears buyers do too, given what has caused some to call me!

Posted by Irene Kennedy Realtor® in Northwestern NJ (Weichert) over 7 years ago

Irene: That is terrific--I think that AR is so appealing to the public--I am surprised that it is not well known by the masses--like FB or Twitter but I guess it is because it is so profession specific that unless you are looking for a home, or looking to list your home you may never go on AR. Maybe that will change ss time passes. It would be interesting to see the statistics if there are any....

Posted by Paula Hathaway, REALTOR, LBA, ...The Most Informed Agent In The Hamptons! (Douglas Elliman Real Estate) over 7 years ago

When I first started writing posts I thought that all I'd write about where market stats and open houses.  After I got started I found my focus more and more on out-of-the-box thinking that may, or may not, someday have some value to the industry.  I tend to try out ideas here, be a little creative with both sides of an argument, then take the feedback to clients and colleagues.  You're right, this is the perfect outlet for ideas.

Posted by Bryan Robertson, Broker, Author, Speaker (Intero Real Estate) over 7 years ago

Bryan: That's what I have found--my blogging has brought another level of thinking into my business too--may have a lot to do with other opinions here but I do think this AR thing engenders "out-of-the box" thinking just by allowing us to be as free as we can be to express our own ideas. If they planned it that way, it could not have had a better outcome! Let's hope the "concept" does not change. This is better than going out to a party--better than gathering a bunch friends at my house! Oops, I may have gone a little overboard here! :)

Paula,

I was surprised to see this was not featured! I totally agree with you! Being on Active Rain actually makes you think about things. For me, I do not want to be left behind or not know what the latest tool, mortgage, RE advice, general market is.

I also happen to like writing, which I believe AR gave many of us an  opportunity that we might not have had otherwise.

The only problem, for me, is that I usually have more time to paint, make jewelry, and do the other creative things I enjoy...now I tend to stop at AR first, get lost in here and well....not many oil paintings in the past few years:)

Posted by Karen Hurst, Rhode Island Waterfront! (RICOASTALLIVING.COM) over 7 years ago

Karen: Well not everything gets featured--I just had a featured post on another subject so maybe ....? Anyway, I love it here too and as a result have found that the other "creatactivities" have fallen by the way side---but I get so much out of this!!! so I don't want to stop anytime soon--I have even tried to figure out how to get a book out of my posts!!! That may be coming in the near future!

Great post Paula, and great dialogue thru the remarks.  I am not usually a creative creature, although I am a starter...this has helped me get thoughts down, and they grow into creative essays.  Great points on the creative aspects.

( I have been a member sinde 2007!) I love the dialogue as well...what a great post because of them!!!

Paula ~ I love all your creative aspects of life and the way you linked it with Active Rain ~ I'm a slow starter but my engines are still running ~

Posted by Karen Baker, Professional Help with Rapid Responses... (Sunset Beach and Beyond Realty) over 7 years ago

Paula---you have said in this post what I realized some months ago about how much Ivalue Active Rain as a creative outlet.  My family, friends, and colleagues (none of whom belong to AR) have questioned the amount of time I spend here.  I'm sporadic at my blogging but am growing ever more drawn in by the pleasure I get from writing and posting my photographs.  I know that what I share with clients is useful information and I learn so much from others who've been here over the years.  I now recognize the importance of SEO and am hearing from people who find my posts via links, etc.  Real estate requires creative thinking that aims to achieve specific goals---sales, great client service, done deals.  On AR we can get other creative juices flowing---those that involve personal expression, introspection, and in various media---making art!  This is a great space to be in.

Yes, Active Rain is a great creative outlet.  I love the people and the learning I get from here.  It's fun "work."

Frank and Karen: It doesn't matter where you are in life, what stage I mean; it doesn't even matter when you begin---AR is the place as far as I am concerned!

Kirsten: I am so happy you agree! I find it to be so much more than I thought in the beginning---even that is part of the creative process here. Would we be doing the things we are doing with our business? Would we be communicating with people across the country?..It's not a matter of maybe; we KNOW that it is through AR that we make the connections and coming up with the BIG ideas that make us successful!! This post does not even cover the idea of how "attitude" is the biggest factor in success---and when we are happy we have a great attitude!!! :)

Debbie: If you are having fun, you are more apt to do it, right? So that answers why we are using AR and using it frequently!! I have met the greatest people here--people whom I would never have a chance to meet in the regular world....
