SUGGESTED VIEWING: "2001 SPACE ODYSSEY"
I know, I know--it's a stretch, but if you watch "2001 A Space Odyssey" you just may come up with I just did:
The reason the whole thing with these high-tech listing platforms like Z and R seem so otherworldly right now is the disconnect to the individual, the public and the real estate agent. The failure to see that the complications of a real estate transaction are almost impossible to accomplish without a flesh and blood agent is beyond understanding.
The film "2001 A Space Odyssey" gives light to the darkness that has overtaken the brokerage communities across the nation...I almost feel like the movie and its message, as obscure as it is, is the right thing to see right now--it can open our eyes in ways that words cannot. (The film was almost totally silent in its presentation, with music seemingly the only form of communication.)
The haunting "Open the pod bay doors, Hal!"..."Open the pod bay doors, Hal!"... without an answer---long pause and then the haunting voice of the computer, Hal finally answers..."I'm sorry Dave; I'm afraid I can't do that."
I know it is a stretch because to this day no one can tell you what the movie was about. There are questions that no one even asks because there are no answers for them. And, yet there is a ravishing of the mind in the attention to detail, sound and visual effects...Stanley Kubrick's technological genius creates a calm yet fearful anxiety that lasts throughout the film.
Which brings me to the reason this movie is at the top of my list for viewing---The technological genius who came up with the listing platform and its apparent control of the entire real estate profession at the moment, can one day be unplugged... It can be defeated because of its rank disregard for others, both the public and the brokerages with all the agents who work within them!
There is an inevitability that appears in the "Hal" character too--that, even his apparent evil can be thwarted--Even as the astronaut struggles to breathe and the AI voice in his ear is reassuring Dave that "I am feeling so much better now, Dave" as he tries to convince Dave not to unplug him, and as he is slowly being unplugged...
Then the ultimate shutdown with "Hals" voice, singing "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do"....and his last song fades to silence.
