PAULA'S SOUTHAMPTON BLOG

A NEW BLOG SITE IS LIKE A NEW PAIR OF SHOES!...A Bit Painful To Start

A NEW BLOG SITE IS LIKE A NEW PAIR OF SHOES!...A Bit Painful To Start; But give it some time and it WILL pay off!

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO START A BLOG??? I wanted to write this post for those who think they want to start blogging but can't find the courage or the incentive to do so---those who just keep putting off begining it, putting it on the back burner as so many other agents get involved and seem to master the art of blogging quickly.

It is all a fantasy, this idea that you can begin blogging and it catches on and you develop a following all in a short while. That rarely if ever happens with blogging. You need to prime yourself to get the juices flowing and even then it takes a while to get a deep understanding of what you need to write about that works for you as you develop your own blogging style.

You need to break your blogging shoes in--just as you would with your new shoes!

A NEW PAIR OF SHOES WON'T PINCH IF YOU DON'T WEAR THEMYou can break shoes in by wearing them a little bit at a time....Just don't try to wear them too long, too early!

This applies to blogging as well. As I review my earliest posts, I can see I was more than eager to get the blogging thing down quickly. That did not work--I had maybe 2 people read my posts--and I wasn't taking the time to make sure the content was what others wanted to read...Then I went too far away from writing about what I care about and that didn't get any followers either.

I now take the time to make sure that what I am blogging about has relevance to my profession and my interests! It is no good to try to write about something that has no connection to what you are thoroughly involved in and care deeply about, in life and in work!

Research, research, research is crucial if you want to blog about the way to do a CMA or a market report. And when you get to blogging about the local area that you specialize in, you need to make sure that the data is correct and that the information is up to date; that the information is interesting and draws a person in. If you are delving into the historical part of an area, make sure that your research comes from a reliable source and is grounded in accuracy.

A NEW PAIR OF SHOES WON'T PINCH IF YOU DON'T WEAR THEM!

OK, So I have been blogging on ActiveRain since 2007; so a new blog site makes sense to me. It does especially with the latest surge in internet searches and with Google's new algorithm's so focused on good content and less on the stuff that fills the pages with "spam-like" content. Apparently from what I have read right here on AR, these algorithms are the latest thing to get SEO juices running again...keeps us on our toes, those of us who like to blog and who want to be on the first page of a Google search.

I have added Blogger and WordPress to my blogging roster and it has been difficult to get my attention over there to blog, especially since is easier and more familiar here on AR. But I do manage to get it done by copying and pasting some of my own posts from ActiveRain.

Most importantly, I have learned that blogging has opened doors for me that I would never have had opened before. It gives me an opportunity to talk about the place that I love so much, The Hamptons.

Southampton, Southampton Village, Water Mill, Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor are my favorite parts of The Hamptons and this is where I do most of my listing and selling real estate.BLOGGING IS THE BEST WAY TO NETWORK

Now, if I didn't find The Hamptons totally fascinating, I could not write about them. I took a long look at what it is about the Hamptons that I truly love and want to share with others. It is more than the fact that the water is irresistible, or that the beaches here are out of this world...Or that the restaurants are the best this side of the Atlantic!

When I think about the most important thing about the Hamptons to me, I think about it's history....how it all started here and those are the posts that pay off for me--big time!

Blogging is not something you can do if you have no interest at all about the topics you pick, so pick carefully.

Once you  get your feet wet (get the point?) then you will find that the new shoes are not quite as tight as they were the previous day or week or month.

Those new shoes will actually loosen up quite nicely once you get into them. Just do it gingerly at the start--get the feel of the shoes and make sure you wear them a little at a time before you jump in with both feet!!!

AHHHHH...now that feels just right!!!
